Description
The Protectors is a ecoprinted/botanical dyed textile. I am interested in artmaking where no materials are purchased and no waste goes into the landfill. I used sustainably gathered plants for pigment, patterning and mark-making and found fabric and offcuts as my canvas. Minerals (waste copper and discarded rusty iron bits) and fire are used as transforming agents to draw the tannin (that holds the colour) from the plants onto the fabric. Unlike chemical paints these natural colours are alive and change colour depending on the light.
Making is a slow, healing, physical ritual that allows for immersion in the natural world.
The Protectors made up of 7 panels comes with a copper rod
Size: 1.6cm X 1.7m
